Evaluation questions

In what ways does you’re your music magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of existing music magazines

Modern music develops on the existing idea of a magazine that gives information on the world of music today. The information is presented in a friendly, humorous yet informative style. I use the format of having News, Reviews, Interviews and Previews and try to work on it to bring the finest, most organized yet readable articles.

How does your music magazine represent particular social groups?

Modern music represents a young musical public, possibly students studying in music institutions, or Young people doing music A level/GCSE’s. Or possibly aspiring musicians.

What kind of institution might distribute your magazine and why?

Newsagents in every corner of Britain will sell Modern Music; this is because most people go to the newsagents to get their magazines. Also the second biggest distributor will be supermarket’s all around Britain, this is due to the fact hat it is convenient for shoppers to able to buy everything they need in one place so the fact that there sold in supermarkets will be added incentive to go, people might be unsure whether to go out and get there magazine but the fact that the can do their daily/weekly shop there as well will increase sales dramatically. Also there will be a subscription to Modern Music for a cheaper price than buying it in the shop, accessible through the Internet or phone. Finally you will be able to buy the magazine from the Internet.

Who would be the audience for you’re your music magazine?

16-25 year old males and females who are interested in the world of music today and want to get a look into to the music industry. But also enjoy getting this information through interesting articles.

How did you attract/address the audience for your music publication

I tried to attract the audience simply through the title. I think I achieve this because it gives away many traits of Modern Music, however what truly illuminates the audience to the innovative style is the tagline: “For everyone who loves the music of the today”. This embodies everything that Modern music represents. Also it connects with the audience due to the fact an audience member who loves music will place themselves within this group. It will surely attract any potential buyer into committing to a purchase.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

If I am being honest, I learned all my Photoshop skills prior to the construction of this product, yet through the process of creating the magazine a learnt a lot about layout and how to make a page of a magazine easy to take in. Also I had a fairly decent understanding of pages as well, but again, I did learn about how layout is important when making a formal publication

Looking back at my preliminary task, of designing the front page of a school magazine, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I feel I thought I had good idea of what a good magazine looked like then, yet having done lots of research into current magazines I realise my original errors and took them into account when producing Modern Music. I think the design of my magazine reflects this understanding.

Fictional Eric Sampson Album Cover

I created a fictional album cover since i had some good pictures left, all i did was changed the framed the picture in a square, changed the colour balance, added some text and the Universal Studios Logo. Although when i made up the Album name WishMan, it meant nothing but put in the context it seems to have quite a deep meaning. That of a man pursuing his wishes.

Double Page Spread

This is the double page spread interview of Eric Sampson. Both following the uniform colour scheme and layout style.

Modern Music: Front Cover & Contents Page

These are the first two pages of Modern Music, they both follow the same colour scheme. And layout style

Preliminary Task

I forgot to upload this earlier so im doing it now.

Research and Planning: Exploration of language, Mode of address and Links to target audience

I think that this is an adequate amount of analysis, although i could have done more.
